His agenda is to drastically hire more government employees who will always vote for him and big government so that they may retain their jobs. Unless this is stopped we will spiral downwards to a complete socialistic country.

I went with "Move the country left to make it better", not because what Obama is trying to do will make things better -- quite the opposite -- but because he seems to believe that in general he's improving things. Never attribute to malice what can be explained by simple incompetence.

I mulled over going with "Radically transform the country at any cost", except that "any cost" would imply that he would intentionally sacrifice his political career, and Obama doesn't strike me as being altruistic about giving up the perks and the fame of being president, however much he would like to inflict involuntary altruism upon those of us who are not a part of his coalition of special interests.

If it was phrased as "radically transform the country as much as possible consistent with getting reelected", then I would have agreed.

I suspect that like most Democratic presidents, he'll be a one termer, however much in denial Obama is about his prospects at this point, but he could pull a Clinton and repeat the events of 1994 by pivoting toward the center if he loses the House (and even possibly the Senate, though that would take winning 29 out of 36 races.) Obama seems to be eerily unaware of how much he's repeating the early Clinton missteps.

Sam, sanctioned your post, though I doubt the Democrats will get to "complete" socialism. Every parasite needs a live host.

How insulated and delusional does Obama have to be to think moving to the left will improve anything?  He's supposed to be a SMART guy.

If his plan were simply to move the country to the left he could have done this incrementally. Instead, he has attacked on all fronts, and with bizarrely ineffectual plans. Had he used the simple ruse of accepting any "bi-partisan": compromise with Republicans, such as nominal tort law reform, he could have instituted his plan for socialized medicine with the support of the McCains of the Congress, along with a public option.

But his real goal, which he apparently does not consciously admit to himself, is destruction. The reason he could not accept a single compromise with the Republicans on health care is because any positive step, like allowing insurance companies to sell across state lines, is anathema to him emotionally. There was not one actual positive reform that he could stomach. He is driven by emotion. Look at his State of the Union speech, it was a childish temper tantrum. Were he consciously aware of his emotional drive to destroy, he would have willingly accepted the price of some small compromise, some lump of sugar, to get the patient to swallow the poison. We are lucky that this boy child friend of racists and terrorists doesn't know and will not admit to himself what he really thinks.

I agree with Ted's post... except for this "...his real goal, which he apparently does not consciously admit to himself, is destruction." Depends on what Ted means by destruction, but I believe he knows that he is going to destroy, but thinks he can rebuild in a form better suited to 'social justice.'

I don't know what "social justice" means, but Obama's agenda can hardly be said to provide any benefits to the poor, just to regulate and destroy capital and industry. I said his unconscious goal is destruction. Only that explains his otherwise inexplicable and self-defeating actions, from cap and trade to the deficit to monetary policy to the idea to move KSM to Manhattan for a show trial when, if he had been rational, he could have aimed for more modest goals and achieved each of them. Why, when he passes a $787B stimulus bill, does he want to cut NASA's meager budget. NASA is symbolic of America's greatness. Obama wants to destroy that, whether he admits it to himself or not.

He certainly fooled a lot of people into thinking that. Or should I say a lot of people fooled themselves into thinking that?

Among the plans talked about before Obama took office was the creation of a National Service Corp, I believe it was called. Sort of like a domestic peace corps. A quasi-military organization with a vaguely defined mandate. This organization would have a police/military capability. He planned to have members of this organization placed in EVERY government agency as "interns" reporting to his administration. Another idea was to take over the HR departments of every business in the US above a certain size. The HR people would report NOT to the company paying their salaries but to a government agency overseeing all employees everywhere. For "fairness" and their "protection". These ideas can come only from a megalomaniac with dreams of being the absolute ruler of a police state. I agree he wants to completely destroy the United States as we know it and turn it completely on its head. I don't believe it is an unconscious wish however. No, I don't have references. I did read Obama's entire website and several other websites of his supporters. I also extensively read Robert Bidinotto's blog and linked many of the articles through his blog which was inexplicably wiped sometime around the time of the election. Obama scared the crap out of me. Still does.

The National Service Corps is right out of Hitler. The SA and the SS were created as parallel shadow military organizations, ready to step in and implement the Nazi agenda. Read William Shirer's Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. The slogan never to waste a crisis is one of Hitler's as well.

Ted, read the first half of "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich". I don't think Obama has Hitler's particular version of megalomania -- once Hitler got the chancellorship, it was all over for the German people, since his paramilitary forces immediately swung into action to intimidate or murder any dissenters and consolidate what he intended to be his permanent rule.

I wouldn't rule out Obama having a milder form of megalomania, given his inability to grasp the fact that the Massachusetts results are a clear indicator that the American public has reached a tipping point that will sweep many of his allies in Congress out of power, that this was not some isolated incidence but an indicator of the mood of the rest of the country.

But, Obama has not shown the sort of ruthless, murderous behavior that characterized Hitler's short reign of terror, that willingness to do absolutely anything to anyone who stands in the way of achieving his goals. He can be voted out of office, and I think he will be unless he has a "Come to Jesus" moment like Clinton did in '94.

Sam, you hit the bull's eye.

A jobs boom in the federal government.

Reading the whole article on-line is only for subscribers. However, here is an excerpt:
"Civilian full-time equivalent employees," as they're known in budgetese, held relatively constant before Mr. Obama came to Washington, but they surged to 1.978 million in 2009 from 1.875 million in 2008. In fiscal 2010, the Administration expects to add another 170,000 workers—a 14.5% leap in two years. © WSJ

Wow! The stats almost tell it all.

Polls are always imperfect, but since I think that "whatever it takes" in Obama's vernacular simply would never imply to him giving up his position, I chose the third option. I think he cannot conceive of his personally being wrong about his Socialistic ideas, and is therefore convinced that all he has to do is achieve the change, and that public opinion and support would automatically follow.

He's already well displayed this attitude in his incredible response to the Massachusetts election. Even in the past few days he's still suggested to Republicans and voters that they give his health care plan 'just another look'. He is a died-in-the-wool fanatic over these concepts, and will never change. At the most, he may learn how to pose and pretend he's listening to other ideas... but he will never change his beliefs.
