I think "Log Cabin Objectivists" would've made a better name for this group. J

I wonder what everyone here thinks of the Log Cabin Republicans?  I think they are fertile ground for convincing people to embrace libertarianism (they are fiscal conservatives who are social liberals).

I have to agree with you there, Byron.  I've seriously considered trying to track down any LCR's that might be in Atlanta.  I'll let you guys know if I get around to that.  (Though I must admit it was more with an eye to finding non-Democrat eligible men rather than getting involved in politics...shameless, eh?)

Hey guys,

Congratulations on your new group. I'll be here to cheer you on....ahem.... at least some of you guys.

Let me know if you ever need anything in the kitchen.

Solo Homo. Yeah I see the need.  You guys must really feel  marginalized.

Hi Wayne,

Marginalized hell. They want to party.

You sure you wanna come over here, though? You might get converted.

As a gay friend of one of my exes said once, when I jokingly told him I wanted to swap my old lady for his stud, "You be careful about wisecracks like that, Michael. I have seen many, many guys from your side come over to mine. I have yet to see one go back."

Michael

"Marginalized." Wayne, that was funny. Sent you a sanction for that one.

We heteros at SOLO ought to call ourselves the Pup Tent Objectivists. The way things are going here, I bet we could all fit in one!

Well, I guess I'm waiting for someone to discuss WHY!  I've had some very good friends who were gay, and we've had very good friendships, but I really don't understand it.  Please don't jump all over me, I really don't understand.  Is there a rationale for being gay?  Hopefully these aren't fight'in words, I don't mean them that way.

Paul,  just wondering

Wayne and Robert, it's comments like that that confirm we humble few must just outshine you all (not that that was the intention).  I heard the same comments @ SOLOC4 and yet if you count the guys on this site the vast majority are straight.  And there are no outright lesbians that I know of.  Yet the few gay guys are very active - posters, that is.

But the purpose of SOLO Homo is not in any way to provide some antidote to marginalization on SOLO.  Au contraire.  And I'm not going anywhere.  But the point is that there are discussions which need to be had but are not expected to be of interest to general SOLO members.  As I've said in my mission statement, there will be no ghetto-izing going on here, but I recognized that there needs to be a place to come together and discuss things of interest specifically to gay Objectivists.

There is also an assumption that someone is straight unless stated otherwise.  Now, I have no issue with that assumption; it works most of the time.  And SOLO does an excellent job of encouraging people to be forthright about their "gaity" - if any.  But there needs to be a recognition, officially, that SOLO is a welcome place and having the club even listed does that.

I don't pretend there's a huge gulf in Objectivism RE matters gay;  but there is a need and I aim to help fill it.

Paul,

Is there a rationale for being straight?  At what point in your development did you wake up and say, "Hey, I really like guys, they make me hot, but girls are hot too and I'm gonna go after them instead."  The truth is, it doesn't work that way.  You're attracted to what you're attracted to.  So is everyone else.  It just happens that some people find, when so many around them are starting to develop sexual feelings for the opposite sex, they are developing those same feelings for the same sex.

Now the issue Michael Stuart Kelly brings up is an interesting tangent but a red herring when you're talking about why some people are gay and some are straight.

And if you're asking why a special interest group for SOLO Homos, that's another post - and a question I think I've answered in my mission statement and my post 10 of this thread.

Jason, I wish you the best of luck with this project.

I must say that when I first spotted the title next to your picture on another thread, I thought someone was playing a joke.  My inner thought was "like he needs a sign..."

I assume you chose the name for its conciseness and impact?  If so, it works.  :)

Hey Jennifer,

Its conciseness, impact, and its humour.  Never forget that  latter ;-)

I just realized that the way the title reads, it looks like it's saying I'm the GA Coordinator and the SOLO Homo.  Like I could even BE the resident Homo - there are so many who've come before me who deserve that label, not the least of which is our illustrious founder and principal.  If you'd seen the photos I have from SOLOC4...but there are some I wouldn't release for fear of being severely beaten!  Then again, I just realized that might be decent blackmail.........

Thank you very much Jennifer - and everyone else - for your well wishes.  Your support is very much appreciated - and  very much needed at this juncture.  Thanks!

Jason

I'd love to be in the Pup Tent, as long as Jennifer Iannolo, Elizabeth , Nicole T  - and my non-Objectivist Girlfriend, as my guest  - can join us. :)

Jason,

Is it permitted for SOLO Straight-Os to post on SOLO Homo -- or are we relegated to voyeurism at what must surely become the filthiest, funnest and most frightening forum on the web?

If we are allowed to post, what are the parameters for the use of the word "fabulous"? How often, how best accented (fAAbulous?), when best used, etc.? And are we even ALLOWED to use that word anyway? I thought that since you couldn't actually HEAR us pronounce it, that maybe it would be OK!

Guys, gals and other assorted Objectivists-

This really is ridiculous. I thought that the entire point of "mainstreaming" gays was that they were assumed to be just like everybody else (something I fervently belief). Instead of being satisfied having a place where you are not castigated for where you "holster your gun", you make yourselves a special interest group! What's next, SOLOBlack? SOLOLatino? I mean, if being gay is not different than the color of your skin, STOP making yourselves separated from the rest!

There's nothing inherently special about sexuality, and there's no reason to start a group committed to the insane, collectivist ideas that gays should "stick together". We gravitate towards each other because of our IDEAS, not with what sex we sleep. I am really ashamed that collectivism has won the day around here.

Steven, I believe it exists in the same spirit as SOLO Food, SOLO Parenting, et. al.: a specialized forum in which members can talk about a particular area of interest, and issues that pertain to that realm.

If SOLO Homo is collectivist, then I guess I'm the Food Fascist.  ;)

Wayne, you sassy man.  I suppose that means *I'll* be stuck with the cooking.  Sigh.

David, thanks for a good chuckle.  Somehow I feel like you couldn't pull off a really good "Fabulous!" -- but I'd love to witness the effort.  I'll let you borrow my fur coat for the occasion.  ;)
