SOLOHQ= 5, TOC=4, ARI=6 (Google PageRank)
Posted by David Bertelsen on 1/12, 2:36pm
It can be argued that success or failure in cyberspace is measured by Google.

For businesses and organisations, to be found (or not) on the internet is now often a question of life or death. And in the year 2005, chances are that if someone wants something that you can offer, they will search first at www.google.com or at one of their many affiliated search engines. In short, if Google rate you, you're hot. If they don't, your not.

The heart of Google software is PageRank™, a system for ranking web pages developed by its founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford University. To quote from Google: "Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search."

And so I would like to congratulate the designers and promoters of www.solohq.com on their Google PageRank. With a rating of 5, SOLOhq.com is ahead of TOC (PR=4) and at a very high level compared to most comparable internet websites. This is truly outstanding due to the relatively short time that SOLO has been in existence (Google, surprisingly, still seems to place a premium on seniority though nobody other than a selected few really knows the exact formula for the Google algorithm). It seems fair to say that it will only be a question of time before SOLO overtakes ARI (currently rated 6) given the dynamic nature of the sites content, and the superior manner with which it has been conceived and marketed.

Congratulations, and keep up the good work!

Explanation of PageRank from Google:

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."
Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.

PS. If you want to be able to see the PageRank of sites you visit, you will need to use Internet Explorer (blaghhh) and install the Google ToolBar (which is unfortunately still not available for my preferred browser, FireFox-probably because they have Google search hardwired). The PageRanking is shown as one of the configurable items for each page you open.
