Robert,

Get well soon! I hope to see you back at SOLO and your JARS editorship as soon as your injuries allow.

Best,

Robert,

Sorry to hear of your accident, and I wish you a speedy and full recovery.

With a nod to Orwell, perhaps this accident is an example of the general proposition, "Four wheels good, two wheels bad."

Robert,

I am sorry to hear that. I hope you get well soon without too much pain. I had sent you a private e-mail, but now I know you cannot answer for awhile, so don't worry about it.

All my best, friend.

Michael

A good mind and a good man -- down, but not out. Grateful it wasn't worse, saddened it was that bad.
Be well and be back soon.

Robert, I am so sorry to hear of your accident, and wish you a comfortable, speedy recovery.

Does this mean you'll have trouble when you want to... eh, never mind.

Aw, jeez, Robert, I am so sorry to hear you got not one, but two arms bunged up. Take your vitamins and get your rest, so you can be back to clacking away on more essays and SOLO posts soon, OK?

Best, REB

Haven't actually posted anything directly to you, (that I recall), but, let me say now that I'm (as no doubt some other lurkers) quite aware of most of what you've written, at least here in SOLO. Your posts have all been extremely substantive and thought-provoking (obviously, to others, re the responses to your posts) to me, showing a 1st-rate mind (on the calibre of C. Sciabarra, e-v-e-n.) Let me here say, "THANK YOU" for all such...

...and, as I would say to CS, don't even try to use the excuse of fractured wrists to supposedly keep you from posting more (get a typist!) --- I didn't let him use the excuse of his Ebola or whatever he whiningly complained about for his goldbricking to keep from posting on his NOT A blog; same to you, man !

P.S: maybe, you know, get those 'training wheels' back on your 'hog' for a while?

Robert -- Sorry to hear that your wrists, which translate the thoughts of your prolific mind to the SOLO site as well as to the eyes of others, will be out of commission for a while. Fortunately your brain is intact. Perhaps you could type with nose or toes? Get well soon!

Robert,

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, although speed may be something that's out of our hands in this case, as I understand that it takes broken bones six weeks to heal fully. Meanwhile, perhaps you could dictate your thoughts to a friend, who would be so kind as to post them. Just a thought, as your wit and wisdom will be sorely missed in the interim.

All the best,

Bill

I've had two and a half weeks to recover now.  On Monday I had to have a follow-up operation on the left wrist--when a piece of bone of forms part of the joint surface, it shouldn't be even 1 mm out of alignment.  The operation went went well and didn't set me back appreciably.  I taught a class this morning, for the first time since the accident, but I won't be ready to go back to work full-time for a while yet.   In 4 weeks or so the pins are due to come out of the left wrist and the splint will be coming off the right.

My heartfelt thanks to my friend Chris Sciabarra to posting the news while I was still in the hospital; to Robert Bidinotto, Roger Bissell, John Dailey, Ethan Dawe, Bill Dwyer, Rich Engle, Brant Gaede, Jody Allen Gomez, Jim Heaps-Nelson, Ed Hudgins, Merlin Jetton, Michael Stuart Kelly, Joe Maurone, Bill Nevin, Jeff Perren, Andy Postema, Adam Reed, and Ed Thompson for expressing their good wishes on this thread; and to John Allen, Joe Duarte, Walter Foddis, Neil Parille, and Jim Valliant for doing the same offline.

Unfortunately, I can't type with my toes, as per Brant's suggestion, and I can't do much dictating: I need help with some everyday tasks, and I rely on my wife and various friends to mark papers for me when I'm grading (I cannot write yet).  So my contributions here will mostly have to be typed at my current, halting rate--till I heal more and get farther into occupational therapy.
